These are select dates for LCD Soundsystem's tour. They're good. The asterisks mean the show will include the ultra-sexy Sri Lankan revolucionista M.I.A. Speaking as a human who never wastes an opportunity to mock the repetition and contrivances of dance music: she's great.

This deserved a full post.

Meh. LCD Soundsystem is pretty tight, but I'd take a pass on M.I.A. Apart from the highly debatable application of the adjective 'ultra-sexy', I saw her perform (live, and, as is canon by now, live performances are not typically the strongest for dance acts) and was not thrilled.

I would be a better person if I had gone to the iTunes Music Store and listened to some studio clips before making up my mind, but I am fickle and lazy. My judgement stands.

Let's note that Mike saw MIA 'live' on TV. The Jimmy Kimmel show.

And, unlike certain body-type obsessive math majors, I use the term 'ultra-sexy' to refer as much to a woman's mind as to her measurements. If not moreso.

For more shallow types, perhaps ultra sexy might not apply. I'm sorry Mike.

If her live show does suck, which it might--I missed Kimmel--the CD is nonetheless rad.

It seems further clarification is necessary. A certain friend (Let's call him L. Baumgarten ... hmm, no, that's too obvious. How about Luke B.) told me how awesome M.I.A is, and that my world would be rocked, nay, turned on its very head if were to simply treat myself to her infectious grooves. Plus, I was told, she is hot.

So, checking the late-nite lineups one eve, I noticed that she was to be on a show called 'Jimmy Kimmel Live'. I tuned in for the express purpose of watching her perform. I was not rocked. She was not hot. I am now disillusioned.

It was noted by an earlier poster that I am a mathematician. As such, I used my extraordinary powers of logic to poke holes in your thesis that I should spend my hard-earned dollars seeing M.I.A. live, in concert. Viewed through the filter of my previous experience, that was simply a daft proposition.

Yes yes, but if I may: Math funds terrorism.

As does Sri Lankan dance music, but I digress. I have been discredited and I slink away in disgrace.

Isn't it strange how a story about Luke's totally 'gay' taste in music got more comments than his much more salacious story about our totally [actually] gay mayor?

I'd like to think that my taste is squarely Bi. Just like our bi mayor.
